Regretting fatherhood in Spain

Objective: In this first study of its kind in Spain, we analyse the scope and reasons underlying paternal regret. Background: Research on parental regret, a subject only recently broached by analysts, tends to focus motherhood. Regretting fatherhood has been scantly researched. test effects intensive fathering, use different care resources, economic employment conditions, satisfaction with respondents’ partnership their regret for having children. Method: The analysis is based an online survey parents children under 7 years old (QUIDAN Survey) A total 3100 were interviewed, sample evenly distributed sex youngest child’s age, proportional parents’ highest level schooling place residence. weighted subsample used article included 1374 fathers. hypotheses are tested logistic regression. Results: social factors associated greater likelihood include circumstances that challenge men’s role as primary breadwinner, negative impact job career, high dependence grandparents balancing working private lives dissatisfaction. relationship between fathering could not be observed. Conclusion: findings show extent fairly limited, similar proportion reported maternal Paternal mainly family circumstances.
